Treforest's Hughes awarded MBE

CREATOR OF "THE GROGG", John Hughes, who runs the 'World of Groggs' shop on Broadway in Treforest, has been awarded an MBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in The Queen's birthday honours list.

Established in 1965, Hughes started by creating ceramic figures of Welsh rugby players, eventually moving his Groggs into the former Dany-y-Graig pub (now World of Groggs gallery and studio on Broadway, Treforest). The World of Groggs has since grown from rugby to cover a wide range of subjects, with Groggs being sold to people worldwide.
